Space Apps – A Great Weekend!
Put together 9000+ people from 83 cities in 44 countries and the ISS,who were given 58 challenges which resulted in 770+ impressive solutions. That was what the largest hackathon in the world saw this weekend. To have brought this event to our city was a wonderful weekend experience. We saw people of many ages, from a 13-yr old hardware hero to coders & engineering undergrads who traveled a long way just to be part of this great collaborative event.
We saw some great app ideas and their implementations, from an app that helps the user sight the ISS to one which uses citizen science to map the lesser known parts of the globe onto popular satellite imagery platforms. We at Team Indus love education outreach activities and the NASA International Space Apps Challenge gave us the opportunity to do just that, and we’ll be there again for next year’s event – to reach out to more space geeks out there.
Warp speed ahead!
